City Guide: Santorini, Greece

While traveling for our honeymoon, my husband and I stopped in Santorini and stayed for a few days: here is some of the things we did, places we ate and where we stayed.

Hotel: De Sol Spa and Hotel

  • Great rooms, very clean, friendly staff
  • Wonderful on site spa, great for couples, has a hot tub, steam room, and sauna for use
  • Restaraunt is great, has a number of options, breakfast buffet is AMAZING
  • Stayed in March and only offered 2 afternoon shuttles to Fira

Dinner Restaurant: Nikola’s

  • Great food, huge portions, very authentic

Dinner Restaurant: Santorini Pirouni

  • Great view over the ocean, eat here for sunset

Cocktails and appetizers: V Lounge

  • Hip vibe, great place for brunch, day drinking and enjoying the sun

Hike from Fria to Oia

  • Let me start by saying this: this is a hike! It can be miss-leading as you start the “hike” just walking through the main town of Fria. Once you get outside the town it turns into a hike. Overall the hike is 6miles and takes anywhere from 2-4 hours depending on how many pictures you take and how much you stop (we were right in the middle at 3 hours). I do want to say this though, it’s not just a leisurely stroll, many parts have a number of stairs and steep hills but it’s well worth it. You won’t get another view like this.
  • Don’t forget to take the extra hike to Sakros Rock. It’ll add about 30min to the hike but it’s well worth it. Gives you a view OF Santorini, not from Santorini.
  • Santorini Dave has a great article with pictures of the path, we followed it exactly and did great. Here:
