Getting to Tian Tan

Got a layover at the Hong Kong airport? Looking for something to do? Why not swing on by Tian Tan aka the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastary

From Hong Kong airport (HKG)

Follow the “left baggage” signs to the orange tunnel to store your luggage. This is great because you won’t have to worry about carrying your suitcase. It’s 12 Hong Kong dollars per bag per hour.

  1. Take the S1 bus to Tung Chung Station. Bus fare is 3.50 Hong Kong dollars, no change is given. This trip takes about 15-20min.
  2. Take the cable car to Lantau Island. Round trip is 210 Hong Kong dollars. And takes about 45min each way.

Note: When you get to the cable car station they have free WiFi. I’d suggest logging on to WiFi and buying your same day ticket online. The line to redeem a voucher is MUCH shorter then the regular line. Also online it’s only 190 HKD round trip.

The top of the island where the cable air drops you off has gift shops, restaurants and a few things to do and see. I’d suggest planning 2 hours to puts around. The last cable cars heads down at 6pm so make sure you watch the time.

Overall time requirement: 5 hours
